I guess you could say that Armand had some redeeming qualities before his son was born. He seemed to love his wife deeply and care for her. After his son as born that quality washed away quickly because of the son being bi-racial. Armand thought that his wife Desiree had some African American blood in her. Because Armand thought this he was despiteful if his wife and his son. The thing that motivates Armand is his hatred toward African Americans. I believe his hatred toward black people is based on the way he was raised. The environment he grew up in portrayed black people as cursed skin because of the time being. Armand wasn’t told that he had black blood in him so he grew up very entitled. Armand was raised in a slave owners home. He obviously would have the same mentality that his father had. Armand could release all his slaves. He can come to realization that he is black and that he doesn’t want to be treated like they are and he would release them
